No time now for long meditations, so time for a silly.
I've mentioned Second Life before. As I level my new space goat in WoW, my SL avatar gathers dust and is likely to continue to do so. For those, like me, without enough time for Second Life, the web site Get a First Life offers other options.
As can be seen, the two sites are near identical, as the second is a blatant parody. Not so unusual on the web. Nor is it unusual that lawyers got involved. What is exceptional is the legal response.
The owner of the offending site notes at some point that he expects a "cease and desist" letter from Linden Labs, owners of Second Life. The ultimate response is what the parody site owner describes as "a proceed and permitted letter".
It's well written, by lawyers, ending with "In conclusion, your invitation to submit a cease-and-desist letter is hereby rejected." It even adds that the use of logos that could justifiable illicit a legal response, are granted amnesty.
At last, a corporate entity with a sense of humor. Would be nice if that caught on.
