Online games have both a curse and a blessing; population. Too few players and the game is DOA. However, too many and you're at an amusement park, standing in line, never getting a ride.
World of Warcraft (WoW) is by far the biggest online game of it's kind, and for good reason. Most similar games offer new software to buy with disturbing frequency. The new software, we'll call it an expansion, can effect the game drastically or very little.
WoW, in spite of, or perhaps because of, it's success hasn't changed drastically since it's release in November, 2004. Imminently, the first WoW expansion, The Burning Crusade, is poised for release. It would be nice if the population remains the same for the current player base, but that's not going to happen.
Already the growth from the last xmas round, exacerbated by a notable South Park episode, has started to fill the amusement park a little too much. Now, on the front page of yahoo.com, I find
this story. Please, for the love of God, don't spread the word; you'll ruin it.

I thought this was nice of them. I'm also even more worried than I was before.

We're writing about your recent World Of Warcraft order
Due to the exceedingly high number of pre-orders we have taken so far, our systems may incorrectly indicate a ship date for your order far out in the future.
We wanted to reassure you that your order is being processed, and our fulfillment centers and carriers are working to ensure that your order is delivered as close as possible to the release date (January 16th). We hope you enjoy your order!
I thought this was nice of them. I'm also even more worried than I was before.

I'm actually glad that I have to work the next day, and that I have a scroll due in two weeks....means I can check all this out after the hubbub has had some time to subside....
I hope.
