I always like to support the local shops. You know where the money goes, in many cases you have direct knowledge of who benefits from your patronage. However, there is another, goofier, reason I like small business: the names.

Anyone can start a business. The first question that needs be answered, after where's the money and what style of company, is what to call it. Most folks wimp out and use the name of the town. Or worse, exercise that insightful business 101 knowledge and use something that starts with an A. But some brave souls put their sense of humor and taste on display for all to see.

As an industry, the best for this by far seems to be hair and nail salons. Almost all are puns (Hair We Are). Some go for chic: Chez Colour, A Touch Of Ambiance, Ab Fab Coiffure, Great Lengths, Great Clips. Some make you believe that hair is a some kind of ethnic group: Hair House Intl, World Of Hair, Spa For Hair, Hair Movement. Most can't spell: Klean Kutz, Bangz Hair, Kuts Just For Kids. Some emphasize sharp objects: Cut Ups, Razor's Edge. There may be drugs involved with Wiggout Unsex Salon and Vito's Head Shoppe. And, my personal favorite of all time: Curl Up N Dye.

But, it wasn't bardic barbers that brought me here. It was this gem: Fish N Trish. The multitude of maleficent meanings that springs to mind is mesmerizing. ( Yeah, I know, the alteration stops now. I just combed through a couple hundred hair names. Deal. Um, I didn't say anything about puns, though.)

So, Fish N Trish. If Trish isn't a pole dancer's stage name I don't know what is. Is she selling, warning, promoting an act? We are left to consider all the possibilities. Thank you Trish, you made my morning; now step away from that tuna, it looks scared.

So, Fish N Trish.

I... what? Wow. That's far weirder than my previous personal favorite, the "Pied Piper" children's swim instruction place I drove past once.

All time favorite, spotted with R and maybe N.

Somewhere around Lancaster is a humble little field of head stones graced by a very homemade looking sign. The sign reads "Resurrection Cemetery".

Brains!
