I previously posted my enthusiasm at the release of one of my favorite Linux distros, Ubuntu ( Drake ). Please disregard.

They rushed this; it's crap. I left it alone for a while and applied updates, it's still crap. Scite causes a segmentation fault. That is all.

Now that's disappointing. The only reason I haven't installed it on any sandbox PCs is because none of them had DVD drives that they could boot from.

I suspect some of it may be my video card. I found the prior version rock solid, this one can't really claim that. There are also known samba issues and I use smb shares. A search shows a lot of bitching over this release.

I still have hopes for the next release. If I wait long enough they may patch this one to a functional level. After fiddling with it last night I eventually got scite to work, though it's hard to say why.

On the plus side, software that's normally a "trial by Linux" installed with surprising ease. Java and VMWare player were just an apt-get away.

Hopefully they'll iron it out in a few months. Sadly, these days, the release is the only true beta test.
