The fun of online encounters is that they're often so sureal. This one's like that, so I thought to share.


The setup. This is Second Life and I'm working on an archery enhancement script. There is combat of a fashion on SL, but it's strictly voluntary and kind of sad. Which is good; no one really wants to dodge bullets while chatting.

I'm on my "land", which is like a residential ghetto with building permits issued by Dali. This noobish looking fellow, birth body and stock tux, comes meandering onto my land. What follows is the conversation, with no edits. Sorry, chat tends to sound like this (misspelling mandatory), comments in italics ...


You: walking in front of archery practice
You: No bright.

You: sorry, they'll poof soon
GoneSilent Dot: ya i know hard to find them to click them =)
You: Lol, sorry
You: My target started out phantom
You: I needed to make a new one :p
GoneSilent Dot: ive yet to play with weapons or pvp
You: No much to say. some people really like em
You: However, elves have archery contests.
GoneSilent Dot: ya I thinl i will wait for the pysics change to havok3
You: Otherwise, there's this... I pull out my favorite BFG, about the same size as me.
GoneSilent Dot: ya im building a nuke base
right, we just went from silly shooting the breeze to twleve year old whacker.

GoneSilent Dot: need more land to make it full size =)
You: That's why there's a weapons sandbox ;) don't tweak the whackers, they can get violent
GoneSilent Dot: put my land up for sale gonna try and get a few acres
GoneSilent Dot: i want to launch my nuke then fly with it take out some of the pvp lands hehe
GoneSilent Dot: first strike =)
You: Dr. Strangelove? probably too young for that one, keep em calm
You: I can block all damage so far, so no worries. ;)

GoneSilent Dot: ya I have bid on a few bases in real life !?! danger Wil Robinson!
GoneSilent Dot: i like the history and such of them
You: Yeah, but there's all that pesky radiation
GoneSilent Dot: got an apple to shoot off my head?
GoneSilent Dot: no rad in the bases
GoneSilent Dot: just asbestos =)

You: I rather like asbestos. My house is covered in it. ;) good, no nukes is good nukes...
You: I'd skip the apple if I were you. Still practicing.
GoneSilent Dot: ya asbestos sideing in the house i am in too
GoneSilent Dot: good 20 layers of paint on it
GoneSilent Dot: want to see what a titan1 base looks like?
GoneSilent Dot: I have pictures on my land plot
You: lol, I'll take a look
well, it's not like he can lock me in the basement

You: Interesting I'm looking at offical looking pics. Authentic looking
GoneSilent Dot: i have 100's of pounds of the blueprints and other stuff
GoneSilent Dot: some day i will make it full size in 2nd life
