There was a peculiar quality of light this morning. The rain was a memory, but the cloud cover was still thick at sunrise. There was no sun, but this clear diffuse light coming from the West where the clouds were thin. The effect was light everywhere and the omnipresent gray seemed somehow warm. The phenomena lasted for over twenty minutes, which is twenty times longer than I've normally seen it. I greatly enjoyed it.
I don't really pray, but often take a moment to try to fully appreciate something. I will direct my appreciation to whoever or whatever seems appropriate to me at the time. The bible god usually gets kudos for sunrises, sunsets, and particularly good sky effects. With the exception of lightning, which makes me think of Thor.
I believe the reason YHVH gets sky cred is probably because of William Blake and his wonderful bearded guy in the clouds paintings. That most of his work is subversive doesn't hurt. And while driving, I was trying to recall is name. I can see it, Will B something...
And just as the name came fully formed to my brain, the iPod shuffled. The random song was Lullaby, by Loreena McKennitt. Out of the 2500 or so songs currently on the thing, I'm near certain that this is the only one with lyrics by William Blake! I actually laughed out loud. "Hear it not, Heaven, thy Ministers have done it!"
And then, the sky darkened and the rain began again. For such a rainy, crappy day, I'm in a strangely good mood.
