Just posted this as a side comment, but it probably warrants a top post.

I noticed the title of tonight's Veronica Mars is “Drinking the Kool-Aid.” I was taken aback for a moment. I first starting using variations of this phrase probably ten years ago. It's a good meme, I just didn't know it had spread into the general populace.

A quick Google yielded a wealth of information. One noted that the phrase had replaced “fall on your sword” in military jargon.

Memes are like this, you think they're yours and then they come to you from an unconnected source. Suddenly, they're everywhere. I was the only one I knew who “nuked” my food in the “nuker” (microwave); now the slang usage is ubiquitous. TV chefs say “nuke it”.

So, I'll take the moment to offer Abyn. Modern kids use “gay” in the same way I used to use “retarded.” I'm not real fond of the gay derogatory, even though there seems to be no malice behind it.

Besides, making a yip dog wear frilly clothing is gay, no matter how you cut it. In this instance, the bonneted shit-su is Abyn. Use Abyn where gay might work. Use it often and in public. Say it with feeling. Know that it started here.

Abyn is the online pseudonym of a flaming Asian friend of mine from the other coast. I have a dream that he'll be in a public place some day and hear a total stranger say something like, “OMG, you can't wear that, it's totally Abyn!”

Please, help me with this dream.
