Odd thoughts: Tears and Pus

Something reminded me of my dad today and a tear rose to my eye. Sometimes it caches me off guard and I'm surprised by the still fresh sharpness of emotion. The path of sad is a crappy one, but I've walked it before and know it eventually gets easier, though still crappy.

And I had this really wierd thought, a metaphor fully formed, tears are like pus. They are the result of an infection of the soul. The abscess forms just below the surface and eventually, pop. Sometimes we bury the infection, turn away and pretend it's not there, but the infection doesn't go away. It festers and waits, finding other avenues of escape, sometimes poisoning the system.

Like pus, it seems best to release tears as early and as completely as possible. You may never get them all out, but there seems to be far less scarring if the abscess is dealt with rather than ignored. Eventually, all the pus plays out and only the soreness remains.

I don't know if that'll work for anyone else, but it made me feel better.

I don't follow Zim, I'm afraid. However, I have noticed the increased acceptability of the fine art of the cartoon gross out.

The first season of Ren and Stimpy was masterful, and shocking at the time. Much else are but shadows compared to the that early stark fearlessness of bodily expulsions. The rubber nipple episode is still creepy.

was that when Ren was the door to door salesman? All I can remember is him screwing the nipples onto his kneecaps...

Yep, eventually they find a horse with a rubber fetish and a captive walrus. The walrus is presented to our hapless salesmen and says, with the kind of melodrama Price the fly's help me, "call the police..."

I recall the whole thing as being brilliantly unpleasant. The creator moved on after the first season and show became gross out sans brains.

Now half the kid pitched cartoons have scatological content that would give a shit chucking monkey pause.

oddly enough, I was working on an analogy between the president and a shit chucking monkey this morning which puts the monkey in the favorable light. While he may chuck shit, at least he doesn't pretend he's doing anything else.
