I'm feeling under the weather today. Could be something coming on, could just be an odd barometer messing with my sinuses. At such times, I often crave fruit juice. Not real fruit, that's too much work and makes all that icky stuff in the belly. No, just the liquid that comes when you squish em will do.
There are enough juice bottles on the shelves to have me frothing on the floor from input overload. Pomegranate is big this year, the cure all of the moment. Everything is so healthy. Look, reduced calorie...
How do you reduce calories in juice? Well, I guess you must thin out the concentrate in some way, maybe extract the sugar through some magical chemical osmosis. The result would generally taste like crap, of course, which is why all that lovely artificial sweetener is added. Sounds yummy and oh so healthy, pour it into growing bodies, I'm sure it won't do any harm.
Even companies that used to sell themselves on 100% fruit juice now use filler and artfully mislead. Ocean Spray markets heavily now. Cranberry Juice Cocktail has high fructose corn syrup. Even the 100% juice varietals use cheaper juice, usually apple or grape, as filler.
This makes the search easy, after all. When you get rid of all the misrepresentation only a handful of products are actual fruit juice in the fruit juice section. I settle on orange and apple. I would have liked some cranberry. Cranberry strait is a little much for me. Ocean Spray used to cut it with grape and even made a sales campaign out of it.
I liked crangrape. Now I don't know what the hell is in the cranberry juice. But, if all these labels are to be believed, whatever is in there is much more healthy.
