When it comes to politics, I've traditionally taken a laissez faire kind of approach. They're all crooks, they're politicians. As long as they keep each other in check and remain somewhat accountable, they can't screw things up do bad. Given the available lists of appointees, none tend to be dramatically different than any other.

That was before Bush. As first he seemed an idiot; hell, still does. However, to his credit, he's managed to make sweeping changes in this country. They are the kind of changes that scare the crap out of me. But, more importantly, even in you agree with his ideology, he's mucked up the system.

All the little pieces that are in place to balance power have been systematically emasculated. The fourth estate is on auto pilot. The days when people complained of criminals getting off due to a technicality are gone, police can lock up virtually anyone with impunity. It's ok to spy on the public, we're looking for terrorists. You don't agree? You must be a terrorist.

Of course, we fear the 2004 election was rigged; there's a lot of evidence. Catch HBO's Hacking Democracy for taste of the future.
Still, I'm going to pull the lever anyway, it's what I can do.

I don't generally vote along any parties lines, but today I will. Anything I can do to break up the power of the current fascist twit is worth it.

Do any of these links scare you? They scare me. Pull the lever so that when they come to silence you, you'll at least know you tried.
