Still playing WoW. I started a new character, a warlock, now apparently commonly referred to as just a lock. She's 16 now, my old characters are funding her clothing addiction. It's cute. I'm having fun.

Notes from Rob Pardo's keynote at the Austin Game Conference are were posted recently. As lead designed for World of Warcraft, Rob was also honored as one of Time's 100 People Who Shape Our World. I also found an interview, but haven't read it yet.

The point here is not a Rob love fest, but rather to note his keynote. It's a truly amazing read, outlining many major design decisions of the game. If I were interviewing for this position, this guy would have got the job in a heartbeat.

This is in stark contrast The Vision of EverQuest. This Vision ultimately ended up saying, "we know better than you so suck it up." This is the attitude often adopted by inept game masters, intent on molding the actions of others to fit their preconceived notions. They then usually wonder where everyone went.

EverQuest? It used to be this big online game. I don't know if anyone plays it anymore.
