I mean, wow for WoW (World of Warcraft).
Almost every hour or so of play, I find myself appreciating some feature of the game. Often, the feature is one we requested for years in EQ. There is no mysticism in the game numbers, you level, these are you number, this is how your character choices affect the numbers, go forth player and make an informed decision. How refreshing!
So many mmorpg's want to keep secrets about how the game actually works. Players struggle toward some achievement whose benefits are barely rumor, only to have their prizes turn into paper tigers that may have some teeth in several months of patching, or not. I'm now happy EQ2 rolled over and expired like the beached behemoth it is. WoW is fun and it's nice to be rid of the Sony megacorp.
As usual, I've already tried most of the classes. I had some early fun with the hunter, but that paled when I started playing casters and hybrids. For a good combination of caster power and physical toughness, I like the Shaman. My friend Kagg extolled me with the virtues of being a troll shammy. Kagg has been snorting the tribal braziers; Orcs rule!
A good write up on stats for the compulsive min maxer can be found here: http://wowvault.ign.com/
Later, I found the much maligned druid to be a lot of fun to play. Indeed, I got her up to level 10, bear form, rar! A brief side not here. As a guy, I generally play male characters. However, and this is a much longer story, I've occasionally had female characters as well. It should be noted, they're usually really cute. Yeah, shallow as hell, but it's still fun. To my continued amazement, people will often fall into gender stereotypes when dealing with little anonymous avatars. This has been extremely, and unexpectedly, educational; when women say men are sadly obvious they're being kind.
My two main WoW character are:
Mutton, 10 Orc Shaman on Lightning's Blade
Dolyn, 10 Night Elf Druid on Icecrown
and
Glok, 7 Dwarf Hunter on Icecrown
There will surely be more but these are the ones that currently have my attention.
