The past couple of days have been, to quote [livejournal.com profile] loosecanon, "fucking brr." Yesterday was -4F with wind chill. That's cold enough to suck all moisture from the world, make any small fleshy appendage threaten to fall off, and remind men they have nipples. Ouch.

The thing is, about 25 years ago I remember it as much colder. Waiting for the bus at the age of twelve, there were many mornings it was too cold to speak. Single digit temperatures were not uncommon. We all would stare at each other, wearing as much clothing as we could and still have mobility, blinking ice from our eyes because our glove encased fingers were incapable of any fine moment. It was damn cold then.

Now, today, on the shortest day of the year, it's cold; unusually so. I recall this type of cold as much more common. I don't think my remembrance is flawed. I'm truly hoping any phenomena that would conclusively prove global warming does not come to pass in my lifetime.
