Late last night we arrive at the hotel after a long, good, SCA event. As doors begin to open and we get ready to pile out of the car and into a lumpy bed, an uninvited guess dives in.

A cat! Still mostly a kitten, probably five months old, meowing hello and walking fearlessly across our laps. He makes the rounds, greeting everyone. He's cute as hell and seems happy for the relative warmth of our car.

After a brief moment of group kitten adulation, we kick him out and head for our room. He follows us! We have to close the door on him, we feel bad. He continues to meow.

This morning the cat's outside our door. No one is claiming him, he's been harassing patrons all night. He's small and hungry and too stupid to shack up in the nearby barn. What's more, he's much too friendly to be a simple stray; this guy's recently been ditched by people who seem to have previously treated him well.

The little cat would undoubtedly die if someone doesn't take him. Who's stupid enough to save kittens from certain death in the middle of nowhere? Duh.

We've named him Vise ( long story ). He's in the basement and hasn't been introduced the Lady Queen Puss of the house, Knack, yet. They meet after he's given the ok from the vet and been relieved of some anatomy he won't be needing.

I'm sure the two cats will get along fine...
